Minister orders govt agencies to establish workers’ councils

Dodoma. The government has directed all its agencies, institutions and organisation to establish workers councils that will address labour related issues.
 Failure to abide by the directive will attract disciplinary measures, according to the minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Public Service Management, Ms Celina Kombani.
Ms Kombani said yesterday in Dodoma that  workers councils were instrumental in boosting the performance of government institutions and organisations.
  “All government institutions and organisations must ensure workers council are formed and operate effectively. They are very important in day to day activities of the government,” she said.
She warned the leadership of government agencies, institutions and organisations who would ignore the directives would be penalised accordingly.
“We will not tolerate a person who ignores government orders,” she warned.
The minister was speaking at the second workers council meeting for employees that are in the public service  in Tanzania Mainland.
Ms Kombani said the government will conduct a survey to establish the number of its agencies, institutions and organisations which have not form such councils.
According to Ms Kombani, workers’ councils have been a major pillar in addressing and building cordial labour relations in workplaces.
“These councils have been the core  pillars in resolving conflicts and misunderstandings between the government and workers as well as among workers themselves.
