Dar es Salaam. Payment of water bills through mobile money has increased the Dar es Salaam Water Supply Company (Dawasco) monthly revenue collection by Sh1 billion.
Speaking during the official launch of the bill payment system through mobile phones yesterday, Dawasco chief executive officer Jackson Midala said it would be convenient for customers. He said Dawasco was currently collecting an average of Sh3.6 billion per month from Sh2.6 billion previously.
Eng Midala noted that the old system forced customers to travel long distances to their headquarters to pay their bills. He also added that the old system seemed to slow down their daily collection of revenue.
